i-NEEMA REBUILDS ER-DUCT

APPLICATION DATE
Jun-18

APPLICATION SITUATION
Severe corrosion affected on the ER Duct lines. Atmospheric air is the medium that passes through.

PROBLEM
The ER Duct from the compressor was damage from severe corrosion.
However, over years of operation and maintenance of the ER Duct had generated severe corrosion and
pitted damage on the surface plate.

PRODUCTS

Belzona 5811 – Immersion Grade
Belzona 9111 – cleaner

SUBSTRATE
Steel

APPLICATION METHOD

The application was carried out in respect to Belzona Know How System Leaflet TCC-5 rebuilding and protecting steel work and SOS-2 Erosion -corrosion resistant coatings.
The surface was prepared by removing previous coating using grinder with rough bit – Bristle Blaster and
later degrease with Belzona 9111.
Then allowed to dry for 40 minutes.
Belzona 1111 was then applied on the surface to rebuild the lost metal.
After the 1st coat application, 2 hours over coat window was applied for the 2nd layer to be coated.
Once Belzona 1111 was fully cured, Surface was then coated with Belzona 5811 Immersion Grade
to prevent surface corrosion.

FACTS

The alternative would have been remove the existing damaged ER Duct lines and then replace with new one.
This would have been very stressful and time consuming and labor.
Downtime would have been a major concern as well as the possibility of galvanic corrosion from dissimilar metals
when welding was introduced.
The Belzona Technical Consultant was on site to train a technician on staff at MV25 on how to prepare the substrate,
how to mix the product and how to apply the product to ensure a successful application.
